Our political guidelines
Going-Electric, the Association for Electric Vehicles in Europe, advocates for a European legislative framework enabling a European leadership in Electric Vehicle (EV) production and commercialisation.
We actively engage with the European Commission towards policies and directives effectively promoting the production and commercialisation of EVs in Europe and creating incentives for consumers and producers that will foster widespread commercialisation of BEVs.
These measures are now badly needed because the BEV technology
is new and not yet economically competitive under current market conditions. Such is true for any new technology whose main advantage is environmental, since most consumers are not prepared to pay a premium to protect the environment.
However, EV technology is significantly simpler than ICV technology. The main technological obstacle is the development and production of adequate automotive batteries, which is currently happening with lithium-based technologies. Therefore, it is very likely that once the technology will have matured and automotive lithium batteries will be widely available, mass production of EVs will make them economically competitive: financial incentives will then no longer be necessary.
Promoting EVs would be a cheap and effective way of reducing greenhouse Gas emissions while significantly improving urban noise, air quality and energy security.
Furthermore, Europe must engage in this direction if it wants to remain competitive in the automotive sector and maintain competitiveness and jobs in this important economic sector.
