Going-Electric meets MEPs
Going-Electric, jointly with two of its members, sent in June 2010 a request for a meeting to the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in the Transport, Environment, and Industry committees, proposing to exchange views on electric vehicles (EVs).
Our mailing was very well received and we met over 40 MEPs. The main messages we convey are:
- EVs (including BEVs, EREVs and FCVs) will replace petrol cars in the next 20 to 30 years. More information...
- Other countries such as China are heavily investing to develop leadership. Europe MUST become a leader in EV, battery and fuel cell technologies if it wants its car industry to remain competitive in 20 to 30 years.
- Since EVs bring benefits mostly to society and little to users, public authorities should support EV development by providing incentives to manufacturers and consumers and promoting training in EV related skills.
- Moreover, European Institutions should abandon regulations forcing European car manufacturers to invest in petrol vehicles improvements, in exchange for regulations forcing the development of EVs.
